Open sourceThe U.S. label for fluoxetine tablets carries a warning titled “Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors”: in short-term studies, antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults. Those studies did not show an increased risk in people over age 24, and showed a reduced risk in people aged 65 and older. This summarizes the label’s warning; it is not medical advice, and decisions about this medicine belong with a prescriber.
